What We Believe

At Great Bay Anglican Church, we joyfully hold to the doctrine, discipline, and worship of Christ as the Church has received them. We stand on the authority of the Old and New Testaments to be the inspired Word of God, and contain all things necessary to salvation. We celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion as Christ Himself gave them, and we uphold the historic Christian faith through the historic creeds of the Church, the Book of Common Prayer, the Anglican Catechism, and the Jerusalem Declaration.

"You gave us the creeds to teach us what to believe; the Scriptures to show us how to live; and the sacraments to join us to Christ.”
-Lancelot Andrewes-

Faith Foundations

The Historic Creeds

The Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed contain the essentials of the Christian faith affirmed by believers across centuries and traditions. In confessing them, we join the global and historic Church in proclaiming the faith once delivered to the saints.

The Anglican Catechism

The Catechism is a clear and comprehensive summary of the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition. Structured around the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Ten Commandments, it offers accessible teaching on what we believe, how we pray, and how we live.

The Book of Common Prayer

The ACNA Book of Common Prayer (2019) is a modern expression of the Anglican liturgical tradition, grounded in Scripture and shaped by the ancient rhythms of prayer, worship, and sacrament that forms our order of worship each Sunday.

The Jerusalem Declaration

The Jerusalem Declaration is a global statement of Anglican faith that reaffirms the authority of Scripture, the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, and the historic teachings of the Church. Born out of a desire to remain faithful to the gospel in a time of confusion and compromise, it calls Anglicans to unity around biblical truth, historic creeds, and the mission of making Christ known in every culture and generation.
